REPAIRING ROT AFFECTED WINDOWS
Left unchecked, the weather can destroy the timbers of box frames and sash pairs. However, the damage is incremental and if caught in time can be effectively repaired.
All our sash window restoration specialists are trained in traditional joinery techniques, to be able to make traditional splice repairs.
We can also use the alternative of epoxy resin repairs using products such as Repair Care, or Timbabuild, which can provide PERMANENT repairs to rot affected timbers on a preventative or curative basis.
Most commonly, the bottom corners of box frames, timber cills and the bottom rails of sash windows are affected and can be routinely repaired or replaced; it would only be where rot has penetrated too far, that a new sash window will be needed.
Sometimes a combination of techniques is used, at the discretion of the craftsman concerned.
But in every case, a robust and long-lasting repair will be effected. Often, we will discover a number of temporary repairs, one on top of the last, but our approach is to get to the heart of the problem and make a substantial repair once and for all.
